Today, we are offering a kitchen tip on how to preserve cheeses. With at least as many cheeses as days in year, people in France have developed little tricks to make sure their cheeses stay fresh as long as possible.
Art of the Home Tip — wrap cheese in wax paper. Wax paper will allow the cheese to breath whereas the plastic wrap provided at the time of purchase will not. Put the wrapped cheese in a closed container (e.g. plastic or glass container) with a few sugar cubes. The sugar is used to absorb extra humidity detrimental to the preservation of cheese. Close the lid and store at the bottom of the fridge. Make sure to replace the sugar cubes on a regular basis. Now, if you are looking for a great cheese idea, we recommend Fromager d’Affinois — delicious on fresh baguette with a glass of red wine. Enjoy and bon appétit!
