Bonjour and welcome to the Art of the Home gallery of beautiful tiled patio ideas! We hope these will create sparks of ideas and help you find what you are looking for!
If you recall, we shared photos of patio ideas before with some structure and material choices. Today, allow us to showcase tile options for your patio space. Outdoor tiles are known for their durability and long-lasting qualities, and as shown in the photos below, they come in a variety of options that are versatile to fit any home style. These tiles are mostly non-porous (if not you’ll need to seal them) and are ideal for high moisture areas such as patios, decks or pool areas. Tiles are also generally low maintenance so more time for you to enjoy the outdoors! A simple hose down every so often and a major soap wash once a year will do the trick. For safety, most tiles have a non-slip surface or are available with non-slip/grip options.
Installing tiles on your patio can make a huge difference on the overall look you want to achieve. Tiles have the ability to transform your outdoor space into a Mediterranean, country or even modern style patio. The unique beauty of natural stone pavers such as granite, marble, slate, travertine and limestone can create tapestries of different shades and unique variations (not one tile is the same as another). Brick pavers in classic red are timeless, while brownish bricks mesh well with the woodsy outdoors. Are you the more artsy and modern homeowner? Try concrete and porcelain tiles which come in a lot of pre-mixed colors and stains you can play with. Looking to add a little Southwestern or Mediterranean flair…try terracotta tiles (Saltillo tiles) in warm hues of orange, red and tan (salsa dancing is optional). With lots and lots of options, you can play around with layouts, textures, and colors – it’s your playground!
So how about a stroll outdoors as we share a few tile options for patios that we hope you will find useful. Feel free to pick one or two tile ideas as we go through our gallery of hand-picked choices. Enjoy and a beautiful day to you!
1. Going Glamping…
The Little Plus: the brick look outdoor porcelain tiles with basket weave layout — it has the same beauty of real red bricks, another classic touch, adding texture to create a non-slip surface for safety. Perfect for when you feel like dancing in the rain! Also, the concrete fire pit has enough elevation to ensure your guests remain cozy during s’mores night. And it’s hard to miss the natural privacy fence covered in plants…green goodness all around.
2. Grow Old With You…
The Little Plus: the Saltillo tile floor in this cozy and practical patio for two. This tile is durable and easy to clean and just like fine wine it ages gracefully. And speaking of wine, the vine-covered wall with pink blooms makes for a romantic background for wine nights under the stars with the love of your life. The aged hardwood arched door ties with the rustic touch of the tiles and create a lived-in patio that is homey and romantic.
3. Provencal Café…
The Little Plus: the stenciled concrete flooring made to resemble Provençal porcelain pink hexagon tomette tiles lends a classy, timeless appeal to the patio. Twin sets of vintage wrought iron tables with matching chairs bring you back to French garden conservatories and their ornate designed furniture. And notice the white bench in the corner for added seating? It plays host to a couple of white planters and pewter pitchers…elegant and understated. Red geraniums in pots of different sizes (and colors) are vibrant punches of color sprinkled all over the patio. Happy thoughts.
4. Al Fresco in Slabs…
The Little Plus: the brick red quarry tile flooring — keeping the outdoor kitchen patio neat and trendy. Its brick red color and basket weave design marries well with the cedar slab dining table and built-in benches. The beauty of these custom pieces shines through from its tight wood grain and natural wood knots. And the privacy fence with irregular pattern creatively binds all the wood elements together. A rustic but trendy space put together for a close-knit family who loves dining alfresco.
5. Pretty in Pink Porcelain…
The Little Plus: the porcelain tile flooring is pretty and delicate in pink but is durable enough to withstand heavy foot traffic on this outdoor (and sunroom) patio. The non-porous material makes it a breeze to maintain and clean…more time for tea and brunch! Too cold or rainy to enjoy beverages on the patio? Head to the lean-to sunroom and watch the rain fall from the numerous skylights (or bask in the sunlight when it’s sunny). Glass sliding doors and walls give a full view of the garden making you feel as if you are outdoors even if you’re not.
6. Neutral Territory…
The Little Plus: the sealed Saltillo pavers with cement grout calling back the stone wall mortar. Four steps leading down defines the lower patio and the wood materials around gives it cohesive effect that still makes it part of the main home structure. Spot the narrow carved stone planter broad enough to create a green border dividing the pathway and the seating area…chic! And those large French doors and a picture window give guests indoors an unobstructed view of the property and the woodlands around.
7. Black Diamonds…
The Little Plus: the natural stone pavers with black insets and black slate border tiles. The patio pavers are anything but boring with its black diamonds tile accents, filling the space with texture and old world flair. Also, notice the whole area is glassed in…achieving a large all season sunroom the family can enjoy any time of the year. Let’s talk about that gazebo bar! Imagine your son (or brother) practicing his barista skills behind the counter. Mojitos anyone?
