The Oldest Woman of France and Europe Turns 114 Today

Marie-Thérèse Bardet, the “doyenne de France” (the oldest French woman), turns 114 today – she saw 3 centuries!  She will get to celebrate mother’s day tomorrow with her son Léon who is 90.  She lives in a retirement home where her son Léon (90), daughter Jeanne (88) and grandson Hervé (59) visit her frequently.   She was raised by the “assistance publique” (France’s foster care).  Presse Océan took this nice picture of Mme Bardet with her son and grandson earlier this year: Marie-Thérèse Bardet entourée de son fils Léon (90 ans) et de son petit-fils Hervé (58 ans) début janvier à Pontchâteau.  She is the 6th oldest woman in the world.  The oldest woman is Amercain: Besse Cooper, a retired school teacher living in Georgia is 115 and was born on August 26, 1896.  Joyeux Anniversaire Madame Bardet!
