Quick and Easy Way to Clean Up Oil Spills in the Kitchen

You spilled oil on your kitchen counter or your kitchen floor?  To clean up oil spills in the kitchen, the key is absorption and you already have all you need in your kitchen to help you.  The problem with just wiping the oil is that it spreads and you have to use so much paper towel — not too eco-friendly!  Check below for a reflex that will quickly and easily clean up  a small to medium unplanned oil spill — the oil will not spread all over (what a mess that is!), the surface won’t get slippery afterwards either, and it minimizes the use of paper towel — always a plus!

Art of the Home Quick and Easy Oil Spills Cleaning Tip

To clean up oil spills in the kitchen, simply get your salt out — salt is a great absorbent.

  1. Pour fine salt on the oil spill — enough so it covers the entire spill.
  2. Wait for the salt to absorb the oil and then pick up the salt with a paper towel.
  3. Wash with dish soap to degrease.  For floor in particular, check that floor is not slippery and repeat as needed.
