Bonjour and welcome to our photo gallery of Living Rooms with Vaulted Ceilings. And as always, sharing “The Little Plus” (“Le Petit Plus”), hope you enjoy…
In any part of the home, a vaulted ceiling creates a sense of openness and visual interest. Imagine a soaring cathedral ceiling, painted white with beams to match, and the sun streaming in from large windows – airy and bright, right? For living rooms, a vaulted ceiling can help in making the area appear larger and grander than it really is, plus it can make room for larger than life art installations (a tree for example…see #03 below). Raised or elevated ceilings can also easily accommodate clerestory windows, large fanlights, window walls, and skylights with their extra height – creating avenues for bright natural light to enter.
Vaulted ceilings come in all shapes and styles. It could be a high and raised flat ceiling or a cavernous cathedral vault with its characteristic steep pitch. You can also opt for a graceful barrel vault which evolved from domes or a stunning groin vault which is made up of two intersecting barrel vaults. Whatever the shape, a vaulted ceiling is a beautiful architectural element you can consider incorporating in your home design. Several options make a higher than high ceiling stand out even more. Exposed rough-hewn beams and trusses add a rustic touch of character and warmth, while skylights are modern additions that bring in the sunshine. You can also dress up vaulted ceilings with glowing chandeliers and pendant lights and illuminate that grand ceiling that you have.
Now please join us as we visit some living rooms with vaulted ceilings below. We handpicked them in different styles and layouts for variety — we hope it will spark a few ideas for your own living room. Enjoy and beautiful day to you!
1. Up Up and Some Grey…
The Little Plus: the white-framed window banks and semi-circle transom. Natural light filters in and brightens up this grand living room, showing off the simple decor. And the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace? Imposing yet rustically warm in its design. Notice how the sofas and chairs are arranged to take advantage of the warm and toasty feel of the clean face gas fireplace.
2. Wood Slope…
The Little Plus: the repurposed dark wood beams and ceiling panels are full of depth and character. Individually unique, the variations in the wood panels create an interesting and attractive look. And notice how the 3-panel decorative screen behind the sofa matches the woodsy theme of the ceiling. And the window wall not only balances out the dark of the wooden elements and brings the outdoors into the room but also brings in plenty of natural light.
3. Wheat and Wood…
The Little Plus: the organic color palette of natural and light wood tones calls to mind summer days and ripening wheat. Modern floor to ceiling windows and skylights open up the space, making it brighter and more spacious. And how about these circular windows by the kitchen…they are like peepholes to another dimension! An ethereal centerpiece for the room comes in the form of a tree, a sure conversation starter. Let’s hope we see the fairies too!
4. Blend In With Beams…
The Little Plus: the white beadboard ceiling and crown moldings with gently arched dark wood beams. The bridge-like shape of the beams give visual interest, drawing the eyes up to notice all the details. Structural and decorative! Two tufted velvet ottoman coffee tables anchors the seating layout together while providing an elegant contrast to the autumnal shades in the room. The expanse of window walls, transoms and French doors with classic white moldings call back the elegant shelving unit and cabinetry.
5. Glass Pods…
The Little Plus: the seamless transition of the window wall and sliding doors. Ideal for opening the living room space to the outdoor living area, creating an uninterrupted flow. The pull down safety blinds are wonderfully adjustable – pull down for privacy and shade, leave open halfway to allow just the right amount of light, or you can leave them up and out of sight for an unobstructed view. Like U.F.O’s flitting about, the oddly shaped glass pendant lights lend a dash of whimsy to the room. And the reclaimed wood coffee table? Eco-friendly use of salvaged wood perfect for this contemporary cabin space.
6. In Truss we Trust…
The Little Plus: the double chandeliers. What is better than one chandelier? Two chandeliers that provide ample lighting and a pleasing symmetrical effect. Notice how the metal studs on the trusses glow from their warm lights. A post-and-beam separates the living room from the dining area and serves as a structural support for the wooden trusses. And the brown bamboo shade rounds up the natural wood hues used throughout.
7. Fishbone and Herringbone…
The Little Plus: the alcove design of the entrance to the living room. Arched like the large iron window, the shape creates a soft and graceful look for this simple room. Also, see how the tone variations on the herringbone-patterned Tuscan tile flooring called back the earth tone accents of this living room. And notice the fishbone-style ceiling beams, stained to match the furniture, subtly mirroring the lines and angles of the tiled flooring, timeless.
