Bonjour and welcome to the Art of the Home gallery of kitchens with wood counters! We hope you enjoy the visit…
Countertops are a vital part of any kitchen. You can use countertops to store key appliances, for food preparation, to serve meals, to entertain or all of the above. Much like with kitchen cabinets, kitchen countertops tend to be a large investment. And there are so many choices…it can be overwhelming at times.
We’ve talked about granite countertops before and today we’ll be discussing kitchens with wood counters. Wood countertops come in various shapes, styles and stains. Being such a dominant piece, much thought has to be given as to how it will fit in with the other elements of your kitchen. As you will see from the photos below, kitchens with wood counters can also be placed in kitchens where other countertops are made of materials such as marble or granite.
Below are some hand-picked kitchens with individually unique wood counter designs. Hope you like them. Enjoy and beautiful day to you.
1. La Bastide…

The Little Plus: the hexagonal terracotta tiles — reminds us of old bastides in Provence. Notice how they are the perfect muted partner to the rich walnut butcher block countertop. And check the unique barrel vaulted ceiling made of bricks and exposed beams and with a matching brick arched entrance no less. Last but not least, the backsplash with its sage green and cream crackle tiles ties very nicely the kitchen island base and the custom made green cabinetry. Wow, what a kitchen!
2. Country Charm…

The Little Plus: the hardwood panels give a burst of life to this brown, ray, and white kitchen. The elongated wood counter dominates the area. When you look at it closely, you can see that these reclaimed wooden planks resemble that of a DIY country-style dining table. The open shelving and vintage light pendants complete the rustic look.
3. On the Edge…
The Little Plus: the rubbed black hand painted kitchen island with glass door cabinets. Its bracket feet make it look like furniture and the large surface of its wood countertop offers plenty of space for food preparation and entertaining. And notice the coffered ceiling painted in a taupe color balancing out the marble flooring and the olive green cabinetry.
4. Walnut Creek…

The Little Plus: the polished chrome double pendant chandelier which adds a modern vintage twist to this traditional kitchen. And, notice how the ecru base of the kitchen island with its dark matte walnut wood plank matches the limestone cabinet countertops. Also, the frosted cross mullion cabinet doors help make the room more airy while adding visual interest
5. Fleur de Sel…
The Little Plus: the end grain thick butcher block counter top and its partner across the aisle — the glossy wooden counter. They both offer very different character to the kitchen but work well together. Also, notice how the polished wood counter helps reflect the muted earth toned subway tile backsplash — a beautiful dance of lights and colors!
6. Ivy on High…
The Little Plus: the light wood center island with its fluted island legs and beadboard base. Also, notice how the recessed panels of the cabinet doors match the kitchen island design. And the wall in cream colors with yellow hues calls back the warmth of the light hardwood floors and the countertop — nicely done.
7. Photon Shower…

The Little Plus: the open ceiling above the kitchen island — it brightens up this contemporary kitchen and highlights the wood countertop’s vibrant brown hues. Also, notice how the small wood shelf above the backsplash marries the browns of the island countertop and the kitchen bar in a beautifully subtle way. The anthracite colored cabinet countertop on the other hand, partners with the modern stainless steel range hood and French door fridge. And to add some character and warmth, a red Persian rug welcomes you to a relaxing bench area where you can sip your tea or coffee in full serenity.
