How to Remove Musty Odors and other Bad Smells

dried lavender

Today, we are offering a cleaning tip on how to remove musty odors from suitcases, drawers, armoires and closets. Check out our Art of the Home tip below and happy dreaming — with a lovely smelling suitcase, where will you be going?

Art of the Home Tip – save your Sunday newspaper (only the black and white pages). Crumple up enough pages of newspaper to fill up the suitcases or drawers, close it up, and check back a few days later. The newspaper ink (which contains charcoal) will absorb the smell so the odor is basically transfered to the newspaper, it’s quite amazing. You can repeat the process if the smell is not completely gone. This tip also works for smelly food containers, trash bins and even your fridge.

Art of the Home Suggestion – after you remove the musty odors, leave a lavender sachet (sachet de lavande) inside your suitcase, drawers or closets. You will find those in many armoires and linen closets all over France. It adds a lovely scent and repels moths as well.
