Art of the Home Tip for Light Waffles and Fluffy Pancakes
- You start like you would make crêpes. First the dry ingredient of your batter inside your mixing bowl (flour, sugar, baking powder, or pancake/waffle mix). Note: if making homemade pancake or waffles, make sure you sift the flour.). Make a well in the middle and mix in your eggs one at a time. Slowly add in the other liquid ingredients (milk, buttermilk, melted butter or whatever your recipe calls for). If time allows, it is a good idea to let your batter rest in the fridge a little bit – you can even prepare it the night before.
- So here is the tip — add “un verre d’eau” (a glass of water – that’s based on old French measuring instructions) which is about 1/2 cup of water to your batter right before you are ready to start your pancakes or waffles. You can also add beer instead, either one works wonders and makes a much lighter batter for delicious pancakes that will be easier to digest also. And voilà — wishing you a lovely breakfast!
