French Women and… Drinking Water

woman drinking water

Today’s, let’s talk about French women and water. Evian, Contrex, Volvic, Badoix…you name it, it is very common to see a French women with a 1 L bottle in her purse or grocery bag (panier). This is especially true in the spring right before summer when we all look to lose a few pounds. We also found a couple of lovely water commercials that you may enjoy. The second video features Carla Bruni, one of France’s First Lady, back in 1988 when she was a top model.

Now, water does not make you lose weight — no miracles here. However, if you drink water, you are not drinking other higher calorie drinks and water does act as a natural appetite suppressant. So next time you have a craving for a snack, reach out for your water bottle and enjoy the pure taste of water! At home, consider squeezing a lemon into your water glass to add some taste and freshness too.

The following clips are translated for you. Love this 2005 Contrex commercial:

Translation

Tu es belle – You are beautiful
Ne doutez plus, vous êtes très belle – Don’t doubt any longer, you are very beautiful

And this is the 1988 commercial with Carli Bruni, First Lady of France – she did not change very much in 23 years:

Translation

Je me trouve belle quand je suis mince – I find myself beautiful when I feel thin
Alors je mange léger et je bois Contrex – So I eat light and I drink Comtrex
Contrex, c’est mon contrat minceur – Contrex is my staying thin contract

Et c’est comme ça que je le preferes – And, it like this that I like it
Mon contract Contrex, c’est mon contrat minceur – My Contrex contract, it’s my staying thin contract
