How about a French movie night (soirée ciné)? Art of the Home recommends the amazing 1969 love triangle/thriller movie “The Swimming Pool” (La Piscine).
The movie features Romy Schneider, a superb actress and France 60’s playboy Alain Delon. Jane Birkin (Serge Gainsbourg‘s muse) has a supporting role. The scene takes place in St. Tropez, France. Romy Schneider plays the role of Marianne, a successful journalist involved with Jean-Paul (Alain Delon), an unemployed writer. Things get complicated when Marianne’s old flame Harry comes back to visit with his sexy daughter Penelope (Jane Birkin).
The movie trailer below is in French with English subtitles (although Romy Schneider has a few lines in English). Even if you don’t get to see the movie, you may enjoy the scenery and home decoration style from the clip as well as get some fashion ideas. For example, it is very classy how Romy Schneider wears her tops, blouses and shirts with a tight fit and a collar (which sometimes she wears up in the movie – great style). In some scenes, she wears her shirts’ buttons a little bit down which adds a gentle sexy edge. Also notice, how she wears a scarf with a summer dress, that’s right, who said scarfs are only for winter! In fact, scarfs are great during any season and add color and shape to most any outfit. Finally, looking at her hairstyle, she wears a pony tail (medium-low height) — very feminine, yet simple and so convenient. The movie is more than 40 years old but when it’s done right, fashion stays ageless. Enjoy!
