Fresh Vegetables at our local French Farmers Market
Zucchini (courgette) is a staple vegetable in the Art of the Home kitchens, especially in Spring and Summer when they are so bountiful. We also grow them in our potager – zucchini are very easy to grow although they do spread, they love space, but if you have it to give to this versatile veggie, zucchini are a great and low maintenance veggie to grow. Now whether you pick it in your vegetable garden, get it at the farmers market or at your local grocery store, there are a few things to look for to make sure you pick the freshest and tastiest zucchini.
3 Tips to Choose a Fresh and Tastier Zucchini
- Opt for smaller zucchini – this is key. The bigger they are, the more seeds and more fibrous they’ll be. Smaller zucchini are also tastier than the big ones. For example, in the picture above at our local farmers market, expect for a couple of them, they are a bit too big for our taste.
- A fresh zucchini should be firm when you gently press on it.
- Choose a smooth zucchini with no black stains.
Enjoy and bon appétit!
